About
The paintings of Rachel Dawn emanate a vibrant energy that radiates life by placing a special focus on the depiction of light in its endless spectrums. Though there is always an observed light source on her subjects, her perspective process naturally expresses a physical and conceptual illumination that seems to originate from within and vibrate out. This serves to heighten reality and expose deeper spiritual meaning. Throughout her craft, she purposefully highlights the hidden potential in all things.
"I have always felt that the power emanated from the sun is undervalued and not fully utilized. Whether it is perceived physically or abstractly, the many facets of light depict a wholeness. Its intrinsic quality is the agent that makes vision possible, thereby creating a point of view, exposing a perspective of color, and revealing the insight to understand a problem or mystery. In a world filled with pretense, I work to capture the truth of light and display it."
Developing two contrasting styles with both brush and knife, Rachel's work is not limited to a predictable outcome. However, a raw essence still exudes from each piece that can be unquestionably identified with the artist because of the way she captures light. Throughout her portfolio, her style either stands by itself overtly proclaiming its message or fades into obscurity secretly inviting the viewer to contemplate and search out the message. The continual investigation of the human experience in all its diverse perceptions is the artist's delight and fascination which directly transfers to all her work. For Rachel, painting forms a language which speaks on a visual level where words would be insufficient and unable to engage the participant in the totality of the experience.
The artist resides in the United States, in a small Pennsylvanian town called Saxonburg and can be found painting in her home studio or outside capturing a moment of the interplay of the sun's dynamic light.
