Impasto painting of a grouping of dried Everlastings. Widespread and wild across the Mediterranean, Helichrysum, also known as Immortelle or Everlasting, what appears as one flower is actually a cluster of minute flowers. Everlasting gets its name from the dry, papery phyllaries (specialized leaves) that surround the base of each flower cluster. These persist long after the flowers have dropped off, resembling petals on dried blossoms. The up-close focus of the central flower's petals reaches out to all sides, imbuing limitless expansion while the texture of the piece speaks of freedom.
"The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the weak,
and to those who have no might He increases strength."
Isaiah 40: 28-29
